Portfolio

2 min read
In lieu of any exciting news or art, I thought I'd invite you to crash-test my improved professional site: www.corinathomas.wordpress.com. I've added my portfolio and a page of what I consider my best/least weird drawings, and I've started tidying up the rest with the aim of posting a bit more frequently.

But then I realised I do have exciting news!

In September I will be starting my Masters in Architecture (Part II of the journey to full qualification) at the Royal College of Art in London. That sounds fancy, doesn't it? It's got the word royal in it anyway. I'm excited and daunted and confused by the whole thing to be honest but the main point is that I have a place somewhere and I'm going there. London, here I come (back!)

I am trying to push myself to draw a bit more in preparation for being surrounded by horrendously talented artists. This seems to have involved buying charcoal pencils and sketching footballers. I hope it gets a bit more decent than that so I can have something to post on here. I am still keeping a fond eye on the dA community even if it doesn't look like it!

Please continue to be your wonderful creative selves and I will try and get round to writing encouraging comments on all your art :)

(what happened to the mood options for journals? Did we lose them when Facebook started copying dA?)

It has been a very very long time since I posted or wrote a journal! Unfortunate side effect of having too much of a social life I think, ha ha. So please forgive the massive update. Last journal I mentioned planning the Christmas quiz at work. It turned out to be 4 hours long and AMAZING. Live music round, dressing up, colouring in, brick dimension numberwang...

Since then work has been pretty busy but I'm still enjoying it lots. Had quite a selection of interesting projects and a lot of great new albums to subject my colleagues to over the office music system. OMAM, Admiral Fallow, Dutch Uncles, Villagers, even the new Mumford and Sons. Also, had some hilarious fanmail because of this 'Omi' guy (our practice is called OMI)

Music has been one of the biggest things in my life here in Manchester. I've played at three open mic nights now (guitar) and apparently am not that terrible. I seem to have written a large number of songs in the last 10 months. A few can be found on www.soundcloud.com/corinathomas. I've been getting lessons with the fabulous Natalie McCool and that has helped immensely. There have been plenty of gigs to go to and I've especially enjoyed the smaller ones with local acts.

I've also been playing and writing music with a couple of colleagues. We have some great (in my opinion) original songs, some we have written together and some individuals have brought to the table. Between us we have guitars, keyboard and vocals. Stay tuned for if and when we ever gig (also direct any drummers and bassists in Manchester that are desperate to be in a band towards us.)

Manchester has been exciting place to grow to love, which is great considering I was never sold on it before I came here. Now I'm writing love songs about it in the same way every Mancunian musician does :P

It has been tough at times. I have had to get used to properly living away from family without the long holidays to go home. I have become both more extroverted and more solitary - aggressive friend making at the same time as lots of time alone writing music. It's a shame drawing has fallen a bit to the wayside but then I look forward to doing more great images at uni when I start my Masters next year.

Till then I'll be doing the same thing. So sorry if I am not super active, thanks so much to everyone who keeps tabs on my art or stumbles across it and faves something. I do keep looking at your amazing drawings and will post if I do create something!

Till next time, stay cool :)

Song meme

This kind of does and doesn't sum up my music taste. Definitely not a list of my favourites haha. I wish my name had an F, I thought of loads for that. Or a W. *sigh*

1) Write down every letter in your name
2) Write down a song that pops up into your head beginning with each letter.
3) Count the number of letters and TAG that many people. (uh, don't know that many people XD)

C - Caribbean Blue, Enya (an old fave that still conjours images of hot holidays and adventures)
O - Oh For A Thousand Tongues - hymn (with epic words and rousing tune)
R - Rawhide, Blues Brothers (because I just keep rollin')
I - Iris, Goo Goo Dolls (such an amazing song)
N - Ningyo Hime from Chobits (not sure why)
A - All I Ever Wanted from The Prince Of Egypt (what a great film)

L - Lover You Should've Come Over, Jeff Buckley (one of my newest faves)
E - Evening At The Ironworks from Princess Mononoke (perhaps my top soundtrack?)
A - Amsterdam, Imagine Dragons (not my favourite of theirs but I played it a lot when we went to Amsterdam)
N - Navigator by ME (and hopefully you'll get to hear it eventually...)
N - New Tail from How To Train Your Dragon (Aaaaaaaaah)
E - Everday, Dave Matthews Band (made a friend who's obsessed with these guys)

T - The Tempest, Pendulum (because that end riff never really left my head)
H - Hey Now, London Grammar (so good live)
O - Overdone, Bombay Bicycle Club (favourite album of 2014, maybe?)
M - Make Tomorrow, Peter Gabriel (he had to be in here somewhere!)
A - Awake Awake O Zion, Keith and Kristyn Getty (Such a great song, makes my heart sing every time)
S - Star Wars, The Piano Guys (*accordion playing Vader*)

I tag Englisheddie, napalmzonde, Bear7101, PeterStringer, 3wyl

In other news I am tired and pushing on till Christmas, Interstellar is amazing and I'm going to see it in Imax again, I must do some Christmas shopping soon and this Christmas Quiz I am helping plan for work will be awesome but will be the death of me. Hope you're all well!
