It has been a very very long time since I posted or wrote a journal! Unfortunate side effect of having too much of a social life I think, ha ha. So please forgive the massive update. Last journal I mentioned planning the Christmas quiz at work. It turned out to be 4 hours long and AMAZING. Live music round, dressing up, colouring in, brick dimension numberwang...
Since then work has been pretty busy but I'm still enjoying it lots. Had quite a selection of interesting projects and a lot of great new albums to subject my colleagues to over the office music system. OMAM, Admiral Fallow, Dutch Uncles, Villagers, even the new Mumford and Sons. Also, had some hilarious fanmail because of this 'Omi' guy (our practice is called OMI)
Music has been one of the biggest things in my life here in Manchester. I've played at three open mic nights now (guitar) and apparently am not that terrible. I seem to have written a large number of songs in the last 10 months. A few can be found on www.soundcloud.com/corinathomas. I've been getting lessons with the fabulous Natalie McCool and that has helped immensely. There have been plenty of gigs to go to and I've especially enjoyed the smaller ones with local acts.
I've also been playing and writing music with a couple of colleagues. We have some great (in my opinion) original songs, some we have written together and some individuals have brought to the table. Between us we have guitars, keyboard and vocals. Stay tuned for if and when we ever gig (also direct any drummers and bassists in Manchester that are desperate to be in a band towards us.)
Manchester has been exciting place to grow to love, which is great considering I was never sold on it before I came here. Now I'm writing love songs about it in the same way every Mancunian musician does
It has been tough at times. I have had to get used to properly living away from family without the long holidays to go home. I have become both more extroverted and more solitary - aggressive friend making at the same time as lots of time alone writing music. It's a shame drawing has fallen a bit to the wayside but then I look forward to doing more great images at uni when I start my Masters next year.
Till then I'll be doing the same thing. So sorry if I am not super active, thanks so much to everyone who keeps tabs on my art or stumbles across it and faves something. I do keep looking at your amazing drawings and will post if I do create something!
Till next time, stay cool
